With the SMS Mac Scripting Application you can send
an SMS from AppleScript. Are you expecting an important
email? Mail can send you an SMS when it arrives. Are you
forgetful? Let iCal send you a reminder to pick up your
suit at the dry cleaner next week. Send yourself a text
message when your server goes down. The possibilities are
endless.

You can download it and place it anywhere on your hard disk, for example in the Applications folder.
